What counts for delivery work

Self-employed drivers usually claim business miles on Self Assessment. Miles between jobs, to pick-ups and on delivery routes typically count. Travel that is really private, or to a fixed permanent base treated as ordinary commuting, usually does not.

Record date, start and end (postcodes help), reason and miles. A printable log is free on this site. Official simplified expenses rates: GOV.UK vehicles.

Quick answers

I am paid per drop — can I still claim?

Many self-employed drivers claim mileage separately from platform pay, using simplified expenses or actual costs. Your contract and tax status matter; an accountant can confirm.

What if the app reimburses fuel?

If you already get a fuel or mileage top-up, do not double-count that spend. Compare with fuel card vs mileage.
